Do You Gain Weight The First Trimester Of Pregnancy
Do You Gain Weight the First Trimester of Pregnancy?
Most women are thrilled to find out they are pregnant, but quickly wonder about their figures. They may ask a doctor or friend, “Do you gain weight the first trimester of pregnancy?”
Finding out you are pregnant is both an exciting and terrifying thing. You probably dream of the day the baby arrives and you’ll spend your time tending to his or her every need. But before that happens, you’ve got nine months worth of changes to look forward to, beginning with the first few months. You’ll probably have a lot of questions running through your mind as your body changes. A common question that many women have is do you gain weight during your first trimester of pregnancy?
The answer really depends on several factors and perhaps it’s better to think of the question in several different ways:
• Do you gain weight during the first trimester of pregnancy because of the baby’s weight? The answer to this is no. The baby weighs just a few ounces during the first few weeks of pregnancy. During the second and third trimesters, you can expect some of the weight gain to be attributed to the baby’s size.
• Do you gain weight during the first trimester of pregnancy just in your breasts? Many women notice their breast increase in size as soon as they’ve missed their first menstrual cycle. You can expect that a small portion of the weight gain is caused by the swelling in your breasts, but again this won’t account for the entire weight gain you’re experiencing.
• Do you gain weight during the first trimester of pregnancy at the same rate as the second or third trimesters? The answer to this is no. You will notice a larger weight gain in your second trimester and then an even larger weight gain in the final weeks of your pregnancy as the baby matures and readies for birth.
• Do you gain weight during the first trimester of pregnancy always? Not every woman puts on weight during the first twelve weeks of her pregnancy. In fact, it’s not uncommon for a woman to lose weight. This is particularly true in the case of a woman who suffers from severe morning sickness. It can be difficult for a woman who is ill to gain weight or even maintain her weight. If this is a concern, it should be discussed with her physician.
• Do you gain weight during the first trimester of pregnancy at a faster rate if you are carrying more than one baby? Yes, if you find yourself blessed with twins or triples, you will have a more substantial weight gain than a woman who is carrying only one baby. You will most likely be visiting your doctor more frequently than a mother who is carrying a single baby will be and your doctor will closely monitor your weight to ensure you don’t gain too little or too much.
Pregnant women are naturally full of questions and many of those questions surface during the first few weeks following conception. Things like do you gain weight during the first trimester of pregnancy, will my hair thin, and will I ever feel normal again are all questions you are bound to have. You’ll soon discover that most pregnancies are uneventful and result in a happy and healthy little boy or girl. It’s natural for you to wonder about your body but keep in mind that millions of other women are also experiencing birth for the first time as well. You’re sure to look back on this time of your life with special thoughts and memories.
