HAVING A BABY

Dont Forget The Newborn Baby Pictures

Don't Forget the Newborn Baby Pictures

Newborn baby pictures often become some of the most important photos in any family's collection. They commemorate that very special day in a way that other childhood photos can't and supply immediate access to an incredibly important and memorable experience. In the excitement of surrounding the arrival of a new baby, newborn baby pictures are often overlooked. Too often, new parents get too few photos immediately and find themselves wishing they had a few more pictures of their child's birth.

Make sure you don't end up with fewer newborn baby pictures than you should have. Consider the following recommendations for newborn photos in order to have an album well stocked with great day one pictures.

Tip: Video is great, but a picture is still worth a thousand words. Many parents think ahead and make sure their video cameras are loaded with new tape and have fully charged batteries. They do a great job of collecting precious moments on video. That's a truly wonderful idea. However, video shouldn't trade off with traditional photography. A picture is much easier to hang upon the wall than a DVD and is easier to access with less hassle than gathering around the television for a home movie screening.

Tip: Hospitals will help. Most child birthing facilities have an ongoing arrangement with photographers specializing in newborn pictures. They will usually contact you soon after the birth of a baby to discuss photo options. Although you aren't obligated to use the team with which the hospital is working, it can be an easy way to secure some great newborn baby photos. Packages can range from simple single shots to large assortments. Keep your eyes on the total price tag, of course, but do take advantage of the opportunity if it is presented.

Tip: Think about do-it-yourself photography. The explosion of easy-to-use digital photography makes it easier than ever for people to get a lot of great newborn baby pictures. However, parents should realize that they won't be the ones pointing and shooting the camera when the big day arrives. Mom will be in no mood to be a portrait photographer and dad will be busy tending to mom, the baby and his own excitement! If you plan to take your own pictures, think again. Instead, make sure a friend or family member who has a working knowledge of your camera and how to use it will be available to get the job done.

Tip: The more the merrier. You will never be critical of yourself for having too many newborn baby photos. If you only grab a few snapshots, however, you will probably be disappointed in the long run. Don't be shy about securing as many pictures as you can of your new baby. Those pictures will be meaningful and special to you and to the child forever. Don't worry about too many pictures unless the photo-taking becomes disruptive or inconveniences the new mother.

Baby pictures invariably become family heirlooms. They provide a wonderful opportunity to relive the sense of joy and awe we experience when watching a new person make his or her first tentative moves of discovery. Good baby photos aren't merely a nice idea, they really are a true essential.

One of the most spectacular ways of creating a lasting memory is to take many wonderful pictures on, or immediately after, the big day. Don't skimp on the newborn baby pictures.
