Taking Newborn Baby Pics
Newborn baby pics are an unmitigated joy. There is something so special and so entertaining about capturing a new person on his or her first days. They are a great keepsake and a wonderful example of how we can use photography to immortalize important moments and to create lasting keepsakes and memories. Taking newborn baby pics, however, does pose a few challenges. Let’s look at a few ways you can transform yourself into a “Grade A” baby photography. These suggestions will help you to take better newborn baby pics.
First, remember the basics. Yes, your subject is the cutest thing in the whole darn world. That will help make for some awesome newborn baby pics. However, the strength of your subject matter will only get you so far if you neglect the basics of good photography. Don’t neglect consideration of proper lighting, good focus, proper composition and everything else you’ve learned about good photography. Baby pics are different, but they are still photographs and they require that same level of commitment to proper technique.
Second, capture moments as they happen. Babies aren’t the most fast-moving things in the world, but they are in constant state of motion, even when asleep. The best newborn baby pics are those that happen to be taken at just that right transitory instant. The photo of the baby opening his mouth slightly before yawning or the snapshot of the newborn girl putting her hand to her face. Those newborn baby pics are the ones that invariably stand out from the crowd and they are taken only when the photography is ready to capture a great moment at the drop of a hat.
Third, expand you horizons. We often think of baby pics as simple documents of new faces wearing cute clothes. It’s really more than that. Photography is always art. Portrait art is no exception and newborn baby pics are just another form of portraiture. Be creative and approach your subject and the photographs from a variety of potential angles and techniques. You will want to balance the requirements of the genre and the parents’ expectations with that creativity, but a willingness to do something “a little different” can produce awesome newborn baby pics.
Finally, don’t be afraid to take many pictures. It’s far better to have too many newborn baby pics than it is to have parents who wish they had more. Take many pictures and when you do snap a shot, follow up with a few more in tight sequence. This will give you a chance at capturing some of those previously mentioned instances and will give the parents more photographs too coo over for years to come. There's no penalty for taking too many shots, and in the digital age you don't even need to be concerned about film or equipment costs. Shoot away! Get a surplus of photos from which to later choose.
Pictures of a newborn are far more important than a standard snapshot. They capture a magical moment in time and document a new human being’s very first explorations of the world. They create lifetime memories and become family treasures. They spur wonderful memories and will always be loved. Don’t approach baby photography lightly; understand just how important it really is for parents and child alike.
Following these suggestions will help you to turn out some wonderful newborn baby pics.
